Working with tables in articles

Insert a new table -this icon allows you to insert a new table into the current article. The drop down allows you to specify the number of columns and rows that the table should feature (from 1 x 1 to 4 x 4). Once a table has been inserted you can use the remaining icons from this row to further edit your table and its formatting.

Delete table - deletes the currently selected table. Be warned, there is no confirmation dialogue for this action or any of the subsequent table formatting actions

Table row properties - with a cell selected in a table, this icon allows you to specify the formatting for the entire row to which this cell belongs. Clicking on the icon opens a pop up window which has General and Advanced tabs

The General tab, shown above, allows you to specify the Row in table part or class to which the table row belongs (Header, Body, or Footer), set the Alignment of the text within these rows (left, center, or right), set the Vertical alignment of the text in these cells (top, center, or bottom), and specify the Height of the row in pixels (leave this empty for it to size automatically).

You shouldn't generally need to use the Advanced tab, shown above, for anything other than applying borders to your table. However, the tab allows you to apply a css style to the row from a drop down Class List, manually assign a css style using the Classes field, apply a table type Id, add a text Summary to the table row, manually assign a css Style, apply a Language code to the table row, add a Background image to the table row, and specify the Language direction of cells across the table row. The final two fields governBorder color and Background color for the cells in this row, and are the most commonly required fields in the Advanced tab. Both fields allow you to choose from a very wide range of available colours or manually enter a colour using hex codes (e.g. #FF0000 forred).

The General tab, shown above, allows you to apply the following formatting to the cell or cells: Alignment of the text within the cell or cells (left, centre, or right); Vertical alignment of the text (top, centre, or bottom); the Cell type (Data or Header); its Scope (Column,RowRow group, or Column group); and most importantly the cell Height and Width in pixels. As with most other table-related popups in the editor, a dopdown list just above the Update and Cancel buttons allows you to choose whether to apply the formatting to individual cells or rows, or globally across the entire table.
